Procurement

Our local manufactured screens

Material procurement for locally manufactured screens are done from well-known trusted suppliers only.

All components to comply with the E120 rating as tested and certified:

    •  Steel profiles,

    •  Glazing tape & setting blocks,

    •  Anchors & screws,

    •  Sealants & cavity filler.

    •  Glass and glazing components:

o  FSA only procures from PG Building Glass.

o  PG Building glass is the only supplier of fire rated glass & glazing components as used in our transparent screens.

Imported screens

Procurement for imported doors & insulated glass is done through an external supplier.

All doors & insulated screens are imported as there are no test certificates available in SA.

Manufacturing of Transparent Fire Rated Screens

Applicable to locally manufactured screens only.

There is no difference in the manufacturing of E60 / E90 screens. The same materials are used.

E120 Fire rated screens have extra support.

Tests were conducted for 90 & 120 minutes rating only. Thus, 60, 90 and 120 minute certification only.

This relates to fixed panel screens with requirements for integrity and stability only.

There are no openable sections in local systems.

Lead times to have material on site are 6 weeks depending on the quantity of screens.

Framework

Our transparent fire rated screens are manufactured from mild steel to comply with the applicable tested units.

Steel sections are welded by certified welders, well experienced in the manufacturing of fire rated frames.

Frames may not buckle when placed on flat surfaces. Tolerance is 1mm over 500mm.

Frame corners may not be sanded away when sanded down after welding.

Internal company quality assurance protocols are followed to ensure quality products at tested standards.

Installation inspection reports are available on request.

Glass

Only 6mm Pyran “S” glass will be used. Glass is toughened / tempered.

Glass will break in thousands of pieces during impact, like any other toughened / tempered glass.

Spray-Painting / Powder Coating / Galvanising of Screens

Internal Frames

Applicable to our locally manufactured screens only.

Screens are powder coated by well-known trusted suppliers, who will issue 12 Months guarantee.

Screens are sand blasted (SA Std 1,5) before powder coating.

Paint touch-ups – Can be done on site after installation, but it is to be accepted that there would be a colour difference.

Paint application & powder coating are two very different processes and will never form a colour match – It is impossible.

Frames could also be spray painted. Frames should receive an undercoat and at least two coats of paint as top layer.

The spray-on process in a controlled spray booth environment will never be the same as on-site conditions. Humidity, heat, wind, and dust, all influences the spray paint process, which influence the final colour.

May be spray painted as long as the guarantee is 12 months or longer.

External Frames

Applicable to our locally manufactured screens only.

Screens cannot be powder coated as a 5 year guarantee cannot be issued.

Screens are sand blasted to SA Std 1,5 / 2,5 (white metal), depending on location as inland or coastal area. Screens then receive a military spec undercoat guaranteed for at least 7 years. Two coats of colour paint are then applied over the undercoat as final top layer.

Paint touch-ups – Could be done on site, but it is to be accepted that there could be a colour difference. The spray-on process in a controlled spray booth environment will never be the same with on-site conditions. Humidity, heat, wind, and dust, all influences the spray paint process, which will influence the final colour.

Screens could also be galvanised to SABS standard. Painting of galvanised steel is problematic as the paint will peel after some time. Galvanised screens may not be cladded with aluminium sections as it is not tested!

Imported Products

Manufactured from mild steel or stainless steel.

Imported products could be specified as:

    •  E60 / E90 / E120 – NOT insulated

    •  EI60 / EI90 / EI120 – Insulated

    •  EW60 / EW90 / EW120 – Radiation

There is a significant difference in manufacturing & price.

This relates to fixed panel screens as well as doors.

Product requirements for integrity and stability are always applicable.

Product requirements could include insulation and radiation on request.

Insulated & radiation products are VERY expensive and are used rarely – It is imported & paid in Euro’s.

Any product with insulation as criteria is specified as EI60 / EI90 / EI120.

There are openable sections in some systems.

Lead times for material in the local port / harbour are between 10 to 12 weeks.
