FSA – Rationale for Testing our Transparent Fire Rated Screens
As the National Building Regulations, referring to the South African National Standards, require certain goals to be met during building & construction, strategies and design techniques have changed over the years. As a result thereof, modern day building layouts and construction developments are different in regulations as stipulated and required 50 years ago.
Due to aesthetic looks in architecture and interior decorating requirements, the use of synthetic plastics, nylons, polyesters, acrylics, fibres and other combustible materials are used more frequently. These synthetic material fires burn vigorously at a much higher temperature than fires many years ago. (Previously, mostly wood was used). This implies that fires also starts much quicker than before, spreading at disastrous speeds, destroying anything & everything in its path.
These high temperature fires prevent the protection and safe evacuation of occupants, which is your most precious resource. It also prevents shielding of assets, goods and equipment.
However, due to our clients' needs to “see on the other side” whilst maintaining a fire barrier or fire compartment, our unique transparent fire rated screens introduce just such an anomaly.
Depending the set requirement, our unique transparent fire rated screens will act as part of your fire barrier or fire compartment for up to 60/90/120 minutes to prevent the spread of fire. These screens will allow for creating a fire rated compartment and a fire rated separating element between the area on fire and/or the rest of the building. It will further prevent fire from spreading into the rest of the building as well. Depending on where these panels are installed, dedicated emergency and/or escape routes will be created and a safe haven for occupants in the building will be provided.
These screens will allow for your sprinkler system to activate and extinguish the fire. It will allow your fire-fighting personnel to have better control over the spread of fire, and to extinguish the fire quicker & easier. It will allow your most valuable resource to evacuate safely and allow you to safely retrieve the company’s electronic hardware, which is the electronic brain of the company.
Therefore, our transparent fire rated screens are needed more than ever, to prevent the spreading of fires through these “see on the other side” fire barriers or fire compartments.
Fire Schutz Africa has tested its own transparent fire rated screens successfully.
We are proud to announce that Fire Schutz Africa has the only valid certificate for transparent fire rated screens in South Africa, as tested on South African standards.
